In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes (and JavaScript)
MOAR Community stuff please! We had a nice little meetup yesterday where we discussed at length what Javascript is and what it can do for you. Since we at hippo are actively focusing on enhancing our current UI, this is a very interesting topic for us.
Read moreBest practice for Document Metadata with Hippo CMS
This blog is about *where* to store Metadata for a document in Hippo CMS. It is not so much about what exactly is metadata and what is not. It is not about 'Structural metadata' versus 'Descriptive metadata'. It will be about how to work efficiently (performance/storage) with Hippo CMS and Metadata in Documents. For example how to model Metadata to efficiently query for 'give me all products between date X and Y', or, 'give me all products sorted by color'. If you confine yourself as a developer to the very simple 2 content model rules below, you won't be trapped by having to write complex queries, complex inefficient java classes, impossible faceted navigations or non-performing queries after your repository grows to large document numbers.

Hippo CMS' Delivery Tier has been designed from the start to scale up and out linearly. I've written blogs which explain some of the backing concepts recently. My previous blog was about measuring performance, where I showed rendering with Hippo Delivery tier is blistering fast, even without page caching enabled. How much is enough, you could ask yourself like Edward Skidelsky did regarding economic growth. Ethics regarding performance (scalability) are fortunately much easier: Performance is a self-evident good, the faster, the better.

The Hippo Delivery Tier is completely optimized for high volume dynamic page rendering and scales nearly linearly vertically and horizontally. Even without caching switched on, amazing numbers are produced. I have always been obsessed with performance, and whenever we were asked to add a feature that could not ever perform, we did not add it to the delivery tier. If you consider the above sales mumbo-jumbo, please continue reading.
