Hippo CMS contains a wide variety of out of the box features, which can be extended with the many freely available Hippo Forge components.

User friendliness

The end-user interface of the CMS is a very user-friendly, application-like environment, where users used to working with office productivity suites such as Microsoft Office will find their way easily. The CMS is fully accessible through a standard web browser without the need to install a plug in or desktop application. The interface offers tabbed browsing which lets a content editor switch between any number of open documents, and integrated action item lists. In case the connection is lost or browser is closed, the user can work from the exact point where he left of without any loss of data.

Site control from the CMS

CMS 7 features the optional Hippo Site Toolkit that allows you rapidly develop sites and applications based on the Hippo JCR repository. Developers can work with their technology platform of choice. Editors can control elements of the presentation directly from the CMS: build presentation templates and modules for complex page presentations directly from the CMS interface.

Faceted Navigation and search built in

Hippo Facet Navigation works out of the box. Browsing through authorized faceted navigation gives you multiple ordered views with the number of occurrences on your (unstructured) physical data. One single document can be found via multiple faceted paths. Users do not have to think about structuring the content in a hierarchical of taxonomic order, but rather the structure evolves organically based on meta data and the users' authorization.

Workflow and version control

Extensive workflow features, including version control, groups and roles. Hippo CMS features an easy to use document workflow. Authors can request publication, unpublication or deletion of their documents. Editors have a list of pending requests in their Todo screen, for fast approval of requests. Hippo CMS can save a version of a document in the history each time it is published or unpublished. Users can also save draft versions whenever they like. The content of a document can be replaced by that of any previous version.
