Hippo

technology

Hippo CMS consists of three components:

  • The Hippo Repository
  • Hippo CMS
  • Template Engine (one or more Hippo Cocoon instances)

These three components form the basis of Hippo CMS. To do this, Hippo uses, and participates in, various well-known Open Source projects within the Apache community. This produces an open platform that can be used as an 'out of the box' content management system, thereby retaining the possibilities of customisation.

Hippo CMS is a pure, open standards-based system. XML, XSL, HTML, XSL-FO, SVG, Xquery and WebDAV (and the DeltaV and DASL extensions to WebDAV for authoring) provide the foundations. SOAP and XML‑RPC are the open standards that are available for data exchange. The CMS templates have been constructed entirely with XSLT. Your data are stored by the CMS entirely in native XML, using XML schemas. Additionally, the system supports Java, Xpath, Xupdate, XPointer, XHTML, RDF and CSS.
