Content Management
A content management system allows you to manage information (content) in a structured way. It lets you:
- separate layout and content,
- store different versions,
- use a workflow to gather and approve the information,
- set (administrative) rights on specific items of information,
- generate and store metadata, so that information is easier to find,
- record the format and the layout of the information (DTD, XML Schema).
A content management system (CMS) ensures that content is published in a consistent way. Because the content and the presentation are kept strictly separate, the content can be modified without affecting the presentation. A CMS automatically links the content to templates and style sheets. These ensure that the right structure and layout are used.
Hippo CMS has extensive workflow functionality. Within the system, the users are given roles that let them access documents and functions. Managing the various versions of a document is also a possibility.
By defining different user roles and authorisations, the accuracy and the consistency of the site can be monitored. For example, an editor can define the templates, DTDs or schemas and the layout, provide support, back initiatives and determine whether the content in the previewing environment may be published online.
