Hippo CMS functionality

Certified components
Various components are delivered as standard with Hippo CMS. The source code (including examples) is freely available, as with Hippo CMS, and can be modified to suit everyone’s requirements.

As well as the freely available components that are delivered as standard with a corporate licence, additional components are available such as e‑commerce and portal modules. These can be seamlessly integrated into Hippo CMS.

A number of specific modules have been developed for the government:

  • Council information system
  • VIND product catalogue

An important advantage of these components is that Hippo CMS can easily link them with back-office applications.

Components that are currently available with the Corporate Support licence:

  • News items (& responses)
  • Job opportunities
  • Forum Mailing list
  • Calendar
  • Poll
  • FAQ
  • Mail-a-friend
  • Extensive search methods
  • Keyword summary
  • Employee summary / telephone list
  • Building forms
  • Suggestion box / notice board
  • Knowledge management module – showing relationships between content items using:
    • Thesaurus
    • Taxonomy
    • Keywords

Hippo CMS is fully integrated into the browser. Those who are familiar with Microsoft Word will jump with joy as they recognise the features. No messing about with pop-ups. No awkward differences between where you do the editing and where your information will be published. Editorial staff can look through the whole site in a one-to-one preview environment before taking the step of actually publishing it.

Hippo CMS supports all standard browsers and browser versions: Internet Explorer 5.5 (and higher), Mozilla and Netscape.

The user-friendly XML editor Xopus is provided as standard with Hippo CMS. No client installation is needed for this. In the editorial process different editors can be selected (e.g. web forms, MS Word or external XML editors). Hippo CMS can also handle XML editors from external suppliers (Microsoft Infopath, Ektron, Xopus, XML Spy, Xmetal). The XML schemas in our CMS can then be used.

An input screen in Dutch is available. Spelling checks are also possible, using MS Office or OpenOffice. The layout of the input screen can be adapted to the in-house style of the user.

Workflow, user management, authorisations and versions are taken into account, right down to the very innermost levels. This means that the input screens are automatically modified to fit the role and the authorisations of the user. These roles and authorisations can be defined however you want.

The asset manager in Hippo CMS allows attachments to be managed and linked to the documents in the system. Within Hippo CMS, links can easily be created between various documents by searching for them in a tree structure. These links are then automatically translated by the system to give a correct link on the website. Internal links are checked and then automatically corrected or deleted. This is never done without the chief editor being informed. A summary of links to documents that have been deleted or moved is generated automatically.

Hippo CMS is based entirely on XML. This means that the meta-data attributed to documents can be defined however you want. Standard fields are the publication and expiry dates, the author, keywords and description. An integrated search engine allows you to search by content or for specific meta-information.
