Java developer

Hippo is looking for an experienced Java Developers who would like to work in a dynamic and international work environment. Do you have a passion for developing great open source software? As a Java developer you will be involved in technical discussions, drive new innovative ideas of designing software systems and make calls on what is feasible or not. You will be on top of new technologies to make sure we stay on the forefront constantly improving our products. You will be working in a small team with top UI and interaction designers, product managers and testers. We require everyone to be well-rounded and continuously learn new things. Because of the major impact of Open Standards on Content Management & Portal technology, Hippo is actively involved in the specification of several Java Specification Request (JSR) standards. Hippo has a vast number of employees participating in open source projects within the Apache Software Foundation. This role will give you the opportunity to work closely with some open source veterans and to pimp your open source resume.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • develop awesome new features front to back as part of a team;
  • Point out issues with the existing architecture and code, and clean it up;
  • Liaise with the technical leads and architects to promote great software design and quality;
  • solve core issues in the Hippo product range;
  • Drive innovation by coming up with new and surprising ideas for our projects and processes;
  • Liaise with other developers, designers, management and support engineers;
  • blog/ communicate about Hippo products;
  • Share knowledge throughout the company, and beyond;
  • Deliver input for external and internal training program;

Qualifications:

  • University degree
  • Extensive knowledge of Java, Spring, JSP, JSF, Wicket, SpringMVC, or other (Java) frameworks;
  • Familiar with content management systems and portals;
  • Standards like JSR 168,286/170, REST;
  • Application servers like Tomcat, JBoss;
  • Open source projects such as Lucene, Jetspeed Portal, Hippo CMS, Cocoon, Jackrabbit;
  • knowledge of open source libraries en testing frameworks;
  • agile methodologies like XP and Scrum;
  • Web technologies like AJAX, JavaScript;
  • Quality is important to you, so you work precise and use best practices when possible.
  • quick learner with a natural interest for new technologies;
  • creative mind;
  • eagerness to excel, but capable of working in a team with people probably smarter than yourself ;-).
