Open Technology: A Crucial Foundation for Digital Miracles
Open source is great because you can have a look at the very foundations of the product. And that's only the beginning. Open source products are built with interoperability and integration in mind. That is why an open source Content Management System is a so much better team player for your eBusiness ecosystem. Creating a digital customer experience will always involve integrating multiple systems and multiple data points. Open source and open standards means, organizations can do so faster and with less risk. That's what we mean by Enterprise Agility.
The Customer Experience Management (CXM) paradigm makes an end to one-site-fits all websites and mobile sites. To create a truly outstanding customer experience, organizations will have to go the extra mile and create new and innovative solutions for their customers. Hippo's open philosophy is the driver behind no-limits innovation. That's what we mean by Innovation Power.
Hippo doesn't just adopt standards - we set them
We are passionate about open technology. That's why we are actively involved in shaping and setting open standards in the software industry. Hippo is actively involved in all these projects and consortiums:
- Java & Web Standards Hippo is involved as an Expert Group Member for the specification of JSR Standards including JSR 283, JSR 286, JSR 301 and JSR 329. Additionally, Hippo implements official JSR standards within Hippo CMS. Hippo CMS can be deployed in any J2SE application server – including Apache Tomcat or JBoss Application Server to deliver the highest availability web content platforms.
- CMIS Standards
Hippo provides support for CMIS standards which provide a standard for improving the integration and interoperability between Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems.
- Web Experience Management Interoperability (WEMI) Hippo is a member of OASIS and involved in the design of the WEMI standard
- Open Web Services REST
Hippo supports Web Services standards, such as RSS, JSON and REST.
Heading up the Apache Rave Project
Apache Rave is an Open Source platform that provides “easy-to-use infrastructure for building and integrating with social media standards including Activity Streams, OpenSocial, W3C Widgets and more.” Hippo is extraordinarily proud to have been a part of Apache Rave from its very beginning. As Ate Douma Hippo’s Enterprise Architect said, “We are proud to not only be an initiator, but a principal participant of this project. We plan to make Rave an integral part of our next generation context-aware content delivery platform.”
Contributing to the Apache Software Foundation projects
Hippo's people are setting the pace in the global open source community and have earned their stripes within the Apache Software Foundation. The Apache Software Foundation is since 1999 an institution in the community-led development of open source software. The Apache projects are defined by collaborative consensus based processes, an open, pragmatic software license and a desire to create high quality software that leads the way in its field. The Hippo CMS Community Edition is such an Apache Project.
Member of OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards)
OASIS is a not-for-profit consortium that drives the development, convergence and adoption of open standards for the global information society. OASIS promotes industry consensus and produces worldwide standards for security, Cloud computing, SOA, Web services, the Smart Grid, electronic publishing, emergency management, and other areas. OASIS open standards offer the potential to lower cost, stimulate innovation, grow global markets, and protect the right of free choice of technology.
Member of the Java Community Process (JCP)
The JCP program is the open community process used since 1998 to develop and revise Java technology specifications, reference implementations (RIs), and technology compatibility kits (TCKs). Today, more than 230 publicly submitted Java Specification Requests (JSRs) are in development through the JCP, with 46 percent in the final stages, and the organization has grown to more than 700 company and individual members.
